Tales from the Black Meadow - Adventures on BBC6 Music - Freakzone

Freaky Tracks to Hear Before You Die (BBC 6 Music) - BBC Playlister

On Sunday 30th November The Yoked Man was played on BBC6 Music. This track, created by The Soulless Party, is one of over twenty pieces of music created for the Black Meadow project.

Stuart Maconie said: "The Yoked Man from Tales from the Black Meadow... It purports to be some discovered notebooks from a man called R. Mullins from the University of York who went missing in 1972 on the North Yorkshire Moors but I fancy that is a conceit to produce a bit of hauntology!"

We don't know what he means...

Superb review of Black Meadow Project by "Fascination with Fear"

Excellent horror blog "Fascination with Fear" has written a fantastic review of the Black Meadow project encompassing the album, book and virtual adventures.

Fascination With Fear

The Album provoked this response:
"I can see the title card and the credits appearing over gently revolving images—a moonlit meadow here, an old tree, the silhouettes of children playing. I’m certain that at the start of the show we would find a gentleman in front of a blazing fire in some English parlor, closing the dusty tome he was holding to welcome us to the show."

 The Book this reaction:
"The book reads like a book of scary stories to tell children before bedtime. The writing is simple and purposefully repetitive, but Lambert goes to great lengths to create the eerie world of the Black Meadow."

The summing up is quite frankly, lovely:
"After reading the book, listening to the CD and the Radio 4 Documentary I am so impressed and inspired by the lengths Lambert went to to bring his mythos to life and spread it out through so many mediums. It is always inspirational to see originality and another’s appreciation for folklore."

Mix from the Black Meadow - Part 1

First broadcast on the 4th July on Garden of Earthly Delights this mix celebrates the wonders of Black Meadow....

Most people know of the Black Meadow but few acknowledge its influence on popular culture.

The legends and tales of this unassuming area on the North York Moors have always held a fascination for artists, writers and musicians.

The recent publication of "Tales from the Black Meadow" has certainly re-ignited interest in this strange place.

So join us on a journey through the pages of this collection of folk horror accompanied by music from Robert Johnson, Nick Drake, Radiohead, Storm Corrosion and many many more...

The Curse of the Black Meadow - Melmoth the Wanderer

Inspired by a the work that Professor Mullins did in collecting the folklore and songs of the Black Meadow this Melmoth mix was created for the launch of the book honouring his work - `Tales from the Black Meadow' by Chris Lambert.

Released today for the first time since the launch it was especially created for... taking extracts from the lost Radio 4 documentary "Curse of the Black Meadow", elements of "Tales from the Black Meadow" by The Soulless Party - this is a beautiful insight into a disturbing world...
